Specializing in small-incision cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and treatment of corneal diseases, Dr. Bakewell is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Arizona Ophthalmological Society.
Dr. Bakewell earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, served his internship at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, and his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. He underwent fellowship training in corneal and glaucoma disease treatment at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Bakewell serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Utah. He has participated in research in the areas of small-incision cataract surgery and intraocular lenses. He has lectured to other ophthalmologists nationally on small-incision cataract surgery, systems for performing cataract surgery, and glaucoma management.
