Specializing in medical ophthalmology, Dr. Lewis is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
He received his medical degree from the Oregon Health and Science University and completed an internship and residency in Family Practice at Ventura County Medical Center in California. After practicing general medicine in Oregon for two years, Dr. Lewis went to Afghanistan with a non-governmental organization to practice medicine among internal refugees and help establish one of the first community development programs in the country. He returned to the U.S. to complete a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and then returned to Afghanistan. For eight years Dr. Lewis served as the medical director of Afghanistan's national eye program, training Afghan physicians and treating patients at University Eye Hospital in Kabul.
